System allowed the over consumption: GI quantity is more than the reservation requirement quantity

Issue: Goods Issue quantity is more the reservation requirement quantity.

Solution: As per the standard, Goods Issue can be posted more than the requirement quantity mentioned in the Reservation. If the requirement is not to allow the over consumption, you need to make the standard message as Error.

T Code – OMCQ

Message – M7 362

1.Open Message Configuration:

Go to transaction code OMCQ. Alternatively, navigate via the IMG path: SPRO > Materials Management > Inventory Management and Physical Inventory > Define Attributes of System Messages.

2.Locate Message M7 362:

Find Application Area (Message Class) M7 and Message Number 362 (Short text: Reserved quant. exceeded by & &).

3.Change the Category to Error:

Change the value in the Category column from W (Warning) or blank to E (Error). Make sure to apply this to both online and batch processing columns if required.

4.Save and Transport:

Click save to capture the change in your customizing transport request.

Once this is transported, any user attempting to post a quantity greater than the reservation in transaction MIGO or Post Goods Movement kind of Fiori app will be blocked by a hard error.

Adding User-Specific Exceptions

If you need warehouse managers to bypass this restriction while strictly enforcing it for regular users, you can use message versions to create an exception:

  1. In OMCQ, leave the standard version (Version 00 or blank) of M7 362 as an Error (E).

    2. Create a new message version (e.g., Z1) for M7 362 and set its category to Warning (W).1

      3. For the managers who need override capability, go to their user profile (Transaction SU01 or SU3).

      4. In the Parameters tab, add parameter ID MSV (Message Version) and set the value to Z1.

Now, general users will receive a hard stop during goods issue, but authorized users with the MSV parameter will only see a warning and can proceed.
