Error message ‘IO 231 – Stock data of serial number &1 not suitable for movement’ is raised during Goods Issue against Outbound Delivery.
Solution:
An inconsistency between Inventory management and Serial number is found. The situation is weird as SAP IM stock is showing 84 PC and IQ03 is showing 84 PC for the Plant and Storage Location.
But one of the serial numbers is showing the Plant and Location as blank as soon as you click on the serial number to display in IQ03.

Please follow the solution steps below to fix the issue.
- Change the Serial Number which has the problem, for example SERN2024 to DUMMY202401 with IQ02.

- Go to MI01 and create Physical Inventory Document for the Material under Plant and Storage Location.
- Go to MI04 and enter the actual stock count as 84 PC. When you give the list of Serial numbers in MI04, you give all 84 actual serial numbers and save.
- Go to MI07 and post the difference (here the difference is ZERO).
- Now you can display the IQ03 transaction to see the Stock type, Plant, storage location for the serial number which have the inconsistency.
- Now you go to VL02N and verify all the serial numbers and post PGI. PGI will be posted without any errors.
Note: Like I mentioned in previous blogs and videos, you can use MI10 transaction to complete MI01, MI04 and MI07 in one step.
You can add your valuable inputs to improve our blogs. Happy Learning.
